AI Use Policy

Welcome to Sequencing! Our platform offers innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI) features, including SequencingAI Reports and SequencingAI Chat (collectively the “SequencingAI Technologies”), designed to enhance your understanding of your genetic data. To access the SequencingAI Technologies, you must first acknowledge and agree to the following Sequencing AI Use Policy. This requirement is specific to customers who wish to utilize the SequencingAI Technologies. If you do not intend to use the SequencingAI Technologies, this policy does not apply to you.

Your use of the SequencingAI Technologies is subject to this AI Use Policy, Sequencing’s Privacy Policy and Sequencing’s Terms of Service.

1.     Definitions
 
a. “Company,” “Sequencing,” “we,” “us”, or “our” – Sequencing.com, Sequencing Research, and/or its affiliates.
 
b. “AI User,” “you,” or “your” – a user who has registered for a Sequencing account and has subscribed to the Company's Premium or Professional Genome Plan, or a user who has purchased a service from the Company that includes SequencingAI Technologies, or a user who has activated a DNA Test Kit from the Company that is part of a whole genome sequencing bundle that includes SequencingAI Technologies.
 
c. “SequencingAI Chat” - a chatbot that simulates conversations with an AI User in an interactive chat (i.e., you are not interacting with a human on the other end when using the SequencingAI Chat). An AI User can access the SequencingAI Chat at any time after they are logged in to their Sequencing account. The AI User may ask the SequencingAI Chat questions about the AI User’s genetic information, including health, wellness, ancestry/genealogy, and bioinformatics information. SequencingAI Chat learns over time about each genome as it retains the history of what the AI User previously shared with it. SequencingAI Chat is only accessible to an AI User if the genome stored in the user's Sequencing account is a subscriber to the Company’s Premium Genome Plan or Professional Genome Plan.
 
d. “SequencingAI Reports” – The Company uses AI tools to analyze an AI User’s provided raw DNA data, processed data, or results from genetic data analysis to generate a SequencingAI Report. The SequencingAI Report may be a summary of all of the AI User’s genetic analysis results. Alternatively, the SequencingAI Report may provide condition-specific information about an AI User (e.g., Cystic Fibrosis), category-specific information about an AI User (e.g., Cardiovascular Health), or profession-specific information about an AI User (e.g., a report for a Healthcare Professional). SequencingAI Reports are only accessible to an AI User if the genome stored in the user's Sequencing account is a subscriber to the Company’s Premium Genome Plan or Professional Genome Plan.
 
2.     Your Options
 
SequencingAI Technologies are not automatically applied to your Sequencing account. If you do not want to use SequencingAI Technologies and you do not want your data to be included in the SequencingAI Technologies or shared with a third-party AI service, do not opt in to the SequencingAI Technologies.

If you do not opt in, the SequencingAI Technologies will not be applied in any way to your account. Not opting in to SequencingAI Technologies will not impact your ability to access any other features included in your Sequencing account.

If you previously opted in, you may opt out at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. Opting out of the SequencingAI Technologies will not impact your ability to access any other features included in your Sequencing account.

3.     Data That Is Processed
 
Initially, the SequencingAI Technologies are trained on non-user-specific information available throughout the Sequencing.com website, including content from Sequencing's Knowledge Center. This general training is independent of any individual user account.

For each AI User who opts in to the SequencingAI Technologies for a genome in their account:

  • The SequencingAI Technologies specific to that AI User's account will process and will be trained on the AI User’s account information, such as the name of the genome stored in the AI User's account, as well as the AI User's genetic data, DNA reports, and the contents of the pages, reports, or Sequencing Apps the AI User is currently accessing, has accessed recently, or is likely to access while signed in to their account at Sequencing.com.
  • Additionally, the SequencingAI Technologies specific to that AI User's account will process and will be trained on any information provided by the AI User while interacting with SequencingAI Chat.

To clarify, the training of the SequencingAI Technologies on data and reports stored in an AI User's account at Sequencing.com is only used by the SequencingAI Technologies applied to, and accessible by, that specific AI User's account. Training data and insights derived from one AI User's account are not used for training the SequencingAI Technologies for any other AI User's account.

4.     Data Retention and Security

The data used by the SequencingAI Technologies is retained in accordance with the Company’s Privacy Policy, 'Retention of Your Personal Information' section and as provided in Section 12 of this AI Use Policy.
 
The data used by the SequencingAI Technologies is secured in accordance with the Company’s Privacy Policy, 'How We Secure Information' section.
 
5.     The Purpose of Processing
 
As noted herein, the Company uses third party AI tools to analyze an AI User’s provided raw DNA data or processed data to generate SequencingAI Reports and to interact with an AI User in the SequencingAI Chat.
 
6.     Sources of Data
 
SequencingAI Technologies utilizes a large language model (LLM). In-regards to providing you insights specific to your genetic information, SequencingAI Technologies only uses data provided by you, such as the genetic data stored in your account, DNA reports stored in your account, and information you provide while interacting with SequencingAI Chat.
 
7.     Acknowledgement of AI-Driven Service
 
By choosing to use SequencingAI Technologies, you acknowledge these services are powered by AI and agree to the terms outlined herein. You understand the limitations inherent in AI-driven services and acknowledge that, despite our efforts to ensure accuracy, there may be instances of incorrect information or interpretations.
 
8.     Not FDA Evaluated Or Reviewed
 
The genetic analysis and associated statements provided by SequencingAI Technologies have not been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These services are not designed to diagnose, monitor, treat, cure, prevent, or alleviate any disease or health condition.
 
9.     Beta Feature Disclosure
 
SequencingAI Technologies are currently in beta phase. This means they are under development, and you may encounter inaccuracies or mistakes. Your feedback is invaluable to us as we strive to improve accuracy and functionality.
 
10.     Limited Human Review
 
The Company only occasionally spot checks (reviews) the SequencingAI Reports and SequencingAI Chats. As a result, most SequencingAI Reports and SequencingAI Chats do not undergo a human review. Consequently, these reports and chats may contain inaccuracies and mistakes, and we advise exercising caution when reviewing their contents. You may also reach out to us by emailing [email protected] if you believe there are inaccuracies or mistakes.
 
11.     Evolving Science
 
SequencingAI Reports provide insights based on the current understanding of genetics, which continually evolves. We recommend generating new SequencingAI Reports periodically to capture the latest scientific advancements.
 
12.     Confidentiality and Limited Data Access
 
Your personal data related to the SequencingAI Technologies is kept confidential except as defined in Section 12 of this AI Use Policy.
 
13.     Data Disclosed To Third-Party AI Services
 
When you use the SequencingAI Technologies, some of your data, including your raw genetic data, analyzed genetic data, app results, and report results, may be shared with third-party AI services, such as OpenAI, which provides some of the technology used by the SequencingAI Technologies. For example, any information you provide while using SequencingAI Chat will be shared with the third-party AI services. Although we strive to limit the retention of shared data by third-party services, please be aware that they may retain some data for an indefinite period of time. 14.     Data Quality and Reliability
 
The accuracy of the SequencingAI Technologies depends on the quality of the genetic data analyzed. The SequencingAI Technologies do not assess the reliability or accuracy of the underlying genetic data, and inaccuracies in raw data could affect our analysis.
 
15.     Not a Substitute for Professional Medical Advice
 
The SequencingAI Technologies are informational and not intended as medical advice. They do not provide medical diagnoses, treatment options, or influence medical decision-making. Always consult with healthcare professionals regarding medical issues and before making decisions based on AI-generated content.
 
16.     User Discretion and Consultation with Healthcare Providers
 
You are responsible for how you interpret and use the information provided by the SequencingAI Technologies. We encourage a cautious approach and recommend consulting healthcare professionals for any health-related concerns. Discussing results and information with a qualified healthcare provider, who may suggest additional testing or analysis, is highly recommended.
 
17.     Non-Genetic Factors Must Be Considered
 
Remember, genetic information is only one part of your overall health picture. Consider family history, lifestyle, and other health factors in consultation with healthcare professionals.
